Another classic 3 for $20 find by me, how do I do it!!!
Mundy hails from Birr, County Offaly, Ireland. He was born in 1975, and his real name is Edmond Enrigh.
Jellylegs was released on Epic Records in 1996, with the single To You I Bestow doing well and being added to the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack. However while recording his second album The Moon is a Bullethole, he was dropped from the label. This album was then shelved but some stars end up on his 2002 album 24 Star Hotel. This was released on his self funded label Camcor Records, which was funded partially from his royalties from the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack.
His latest album, the self titled Mundy has been released this year.
In my mind his first album is the best, with semi acoustic rock flow to it. The best highlight of this is Gin and Tonic Sky
It is hard to class what artists are similar, what I would put in similar terms as REM (early), The Delvins and Joseph Arthur.
Have a listen, you won’t be disappointed
Fretblanet were an powerpop band from Stourbridge, England.
A bit like Bush at the time, they got more attention in America than the UK which was in the throes of Britpop.
They had a 1997 with the song “Into the Ocean” and second a second albums called Home Truths From Abroad but seemed to vanish after that.
Originally I got this on tape along with some other crackers like a couple of The Mission Albums in 1997. I played it to death, especially loving Song in B, Junkfuelled and 1941. Both albums I have on cd.
You may notice in my posts that I remember everything about when I get a album. I seem to be able to recall everything about that magical moment I find a album.
Now I can’t find anything about these guys at all!! This is one that appeared and vanished. Am I the only person that has a copy?
UMA had three members:
- Chris Hickey Vocals and Guitar
- Andy Kamman Drums and Percussion
- Sally Dworsky Vocals Guitar and Keyboard.
Recorded in LA during later end of 1996.
The song is a acoustic rock vibe, with many of the songs sharing vocals of Chris and Sally, mending the songs together.
Again I wonder how a album this good just vanishes……..
Part of an 3 for $20 bin find in 1997 (sometimes that how you find the classics…and some shit)
Murray Attaway is an American musician, best known as the lead singer and guitarist for the Marietta, Georgia jangle pop band Guadalcanal Diary.
It featured the following musicians on it:
Jackson Browne, Aimee Mann, Benmont Tench, Steve Nieve, Jim Keltner and Nicky Hopkins on piano.
To date he has only released the one solo album, but there is a rumour to be another self release on its way.
I always find it strange that a album packed with some many great songs, and songs that are different to each other, seems to sink with no trace. A lot of time it is how it is marketed by the Record Label, and as it a pop record it was released at the high of the grunge era.
Here is hoping for a reissue of it.
Another bargain find at $2. But this Sheffield band have made a cracker of an album.
An album that would be their first and last. They had a minor hit with ” Town Clowns ” and ” Don’t Say You’re Sorry “, but they failed to chart and disbanded.
At least they made a great album before fading away.
